What is Decipher Prostate?

Decipher Prostate is a tissue-based genomic test that provides important information about the underlying biology of your tumor.
Testing is performed on existing prostate tissue from either your biopsy or radical prostatectomy (surgery to remove the prostate). No additional medical procedure is required.
Decipher Prostate examines the expression of 22 genes that can help identify tumors that are more likely to spread outside the prostate.
The result is your Decipher score (from 0.0 to 1.0).
A lower score reflects a less aggressive tumor, while
a higher score reflects a more aggressive tumor.

How Decipher Prostate Fits into the Prostate Cancer Patient Journey

How is Patient Risk Determined in Prostate Cancer?

A patient’s risk of their prostate cancer spreading is determined by several factors that include: how aggressive the cancer looks under the microscope (Gleason Score), the amount of cancer in the prostate (imaging), and the result of their prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test.
This information is used to place the patient into a risk group (low, intermediate, or high) and help identify appropriate treatment options.
The answers to key questions such as who to treat, when to treat, and how much to treat are not always clear based on these factors alone. More information can help determine the best management plan.

What is Tumor Genomic Testing?

Tumor genomic testing looks at genes, how they are interrelated, and their expression or activity within the cancerous tissue. This can help determine the behavior of the disease, such as its aggressiveness.

What does my Decipher Prostate test report look like?

Decipher Prostate tests (Biopsy, Radical Prostatectomy, or Metastatic) are designed to support risk stratification and clinical decision-making. The first page of each report provides the patients Decipher score, corresponding genomic risk group (low, intermediate, or high for localized disease; lower or higher for metastatic disease), interpretation language, and risk estimates for prostate cancer-specific outcomes. The second page includes additional clinical context and detailed data specific to the individual patient.

How do I get a copy of my test result? 

Your Decipher report may be requested from your doctor. If you have questions, please email [email protected]

Is the Decipher Prostate Genomic Classifier or Decipher Bladder Genomic Classifier FDA cleared? 

The Decipher Prostate and Bladder tests are available as part of Veracyte’s Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-validated laboratory developed test (LDT) service. FDA approval or clearance is not required for the Decipher Prostate or Bladder tests.

Currently, Decipher testing is only available to patients within the United States through Veracyte’s CLIA-validated laboratory service. We are actively exploring opportunities to expand access to Decipher testing internationally in the coming years.
